Intersectionality is a word that in simple terms means ‘everyone is different’. Specifically, that people experience different overlapping barriers depending on their personal characteristics. Not everyone in the LGBTQIA+ is the same ethnicity for example – some may face homophobia as well as racism. Understanding intersectionality helps us to build bridges across communities, particularly those that are marginalised.
